Ingredients
The ingredients here are just a brief overview of the ingredients used in this garlic chicken pasta recipe. For a complete ingredient list, be sure to check out the recipe card down below.
- Chicken: my go-to chicken for my family is Springer Mountain Farms chicken. Not only are they dedicated to providing their chickens with a quality of life, but they feed them a healthy diet as well. Springer Mountain Farms chicken is always gluten-free and free of hormones and antibiotics. For this particular pasta recipe, I am using chicken breast, but you can also substitute it with chicken thighs.
- Heavy cream: heavy cream is used to keep this creamy Parmesan sauce thick. Using something like milk or half-and-half will cause a runnier sauce. This recipe does work well if you use dairy-free heavy cream.
- Parmesan: I like to use shredded Parmesan for this recipe, if you are dairy-free, you can also use dairy-free Parmesan. My favorite dairy-free Parmesan cheese is follow Your Heart.
- Chicken broth: if you do not have chicken broth, you can also use vegetable broth.
- Flour: I am using gluten-free one-to-one flour like Bob's Red Mill to thicken the sauce in this recipe recipe. If you are not gluten-free, regular flour works well too.
- Pasta: I am using gluten-free farfalle by Jovial Foods for this recipe. However, you can use any pasta you would like. This creamy garlic sauce goes perfectly with the likes of fettuccine, and linguine, and it also works great with penne because it holds onto the sauce well.
- Paprika, salt, pepper. (Use code NK15 for 15% off of your order).
- Thyme
- Garlic
- Oregano
- Butter
- Italian seasoning
- Dry shallots (use code 15GOLDENGK for 15% off)
Instructions
- In a large pot, boil pasta according to the directions on the box for al dente.
- Place all chicken seasonings into a small bowl and mix.
- Pound chicken down to thin out slightly. Then season the chicken on both sides with seasoning.
- In a large skillet, heat the olive oil on medium heat. Once hot, sear the chicken for 5 minutes on each side. Once both sides are seared, flip the chicken and lower the heat slightly to medium-low. Place a lid on the pan and cook for an additional 10-12 minutes.
- Once the internal temperature is 165 ℉, remove the chicken from the pan and place it onto a cutting board.
- Place the butter into the pan and allow it to melt.
- Once the butter is melted, add a small bowl of seasonings. Stir well and simmer for one minute.
- Next, add in the flour and stir well, scraping the bottom of the pan.
- Pour in the chicken broth and heavy cream. Whisk well until a smooth and creamy sauce has been formed.
- Pour in the Parmesan cheese and stir together until completely melted. Allow it to cook, stirring occasionally until the desired consistency is met.
- Pour in the pasta and toss well to coat evenly. Add pasta water one tablespoon at a time to thin out the sauce.
- Once that is done, slice the chicken breast and add them to the pasta. Carefully stir, then serve!
Storage
Keep this garlic pasta in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to four days.
Serving suggestions
This Chicken garlic parmesan pasta goes great with a simple side salad or garlic bread. Give the garlic bread a whirl through the creamy sauce to feel like you are having a night at the Olive Garden.
Substitutions
- One of the wonderful things about cooking, is, you can change the dynamics of a recipe just by switching out one or two ingredients.
- Serve this recipe with coded chicken tenders for more of a takeout dish appeal.
- Use cheddar cheese instead of Parmesan cheese to make this more of a macaroni and cheese.
- During the final stages of cooking, add fresh vegetables, like spinach, kale, or even steamed broccoli.
- Mushrooms also make an amazing substitution for this recipe.
- For a savory garlic, Parmesan pasta dish, add chopped bacon for a smoky flavor similar to this smoked mac and cheese.
Top Tips
- If your sauce is too thick at the end, use the reserved pasta water to thin it out.
- Always salt your pasta water prior to boiling the water.
- Make sure you have lowered the heat before adding the butter to the pan. You don’t want the butter to burn.
- Be sure to remove the chicken from the heat as soon as it reaches the internal temperature of 165 ℉. Do not cut the chicken while it is still hot to allow it to preserve moisture.

Fey says
Love, a gorgeous creamy well seasoned sauce . I was sceptical at first, because of amount of cheese , but trust the recipe because it turn out great. I was stuggling at 1st with the conversation US to UK but goldengracekation on Instagram was very helpful .
Notes I got
In the uk it was hard to find dry shallot, you can use the fresh one and dice it and but it in with the chicken .
I saw manny different conversions on line but I ended up putting 9 swirls on tagliatelle pasta , i would recommend doing the same or 8. I made mine for 3 people but there some left over and would be great for 5 people( we EAT).
As for cheese I did 1cup and 1/4 but if I do it I would do 1 and 1/2 or 3/4 , i know it might seem like a lot but it good.
NKendrick says
Thank you so much for sharing such a detailed review!! m very happy to hear that it worked out for you and your family!

Very good, but I wouldn’t advertise it as a garlic pasta. The only garlic used is in the chicken seasonings. I couldn’t find shallots, so used minced garlic and onion powder. I’d make it again. The chicken was amazing and super moist.

This recipe was easy to follow and is worth saving.
In the future, I will add salt to the sauce (I use low or no sodium broth) and fresh garlic. I found the garlic flavor lacking overall for a dish with garlic in the title.
I absolutely appreciate the cooking instructions for the chicken. I tend to over or under cook when using the stove top method in this recipe.
NKendrick says
Thank you for the detailed review. One thing I always try to do is keep my salt to a minimum in every recipe as it's something can easily be adjusted by those making the recipe. Everyone's taste buds for salt is so different and it is much easier for one to add than it is to remove it.

I made this last night. My and I agreed it had a little bit too much parmesan and Not enough garlic. Not sure how it is called Chicken Garlic Parmesan and the recipe only have 1 tsp of garlic powder? The chicken turned out very moist.
NKendrick says
The good thing is garlic is completely adjustable....The recipe will still cook the same by adding more garlic:)
Thomas Viborg says
A really nice dish. I however only used a bit more than 1 cup of heavy cream and half the Parmesan cheese, and just added a bit more pasta water. It still got very creamy. Tomorrow we Will try and add steamed broccoli to the leftovers. When the kids are home the next time, we will try the dish again. I am sure they will love it. I Never tried those pasta before. Such a nice “bite” to them. I served the chicken on the side. Thank You very much for the recipe. Greetings from Denmark
