    Why You'll Love This Recipe

    • Simple Ingredients: Don't waste time rushing to the store or looking for fancy ingredients. This creamy pasta and sausage sticks to the basics without sacrificing flavor.
    • Easy To Make: This pasta and cream sauce will be on the table in 20 minutes so you can keep your busy days moving!
    • Big Flavors: Easy creamy sausage pasta brings together the delicious flavors of garlic, tomato and heavy cream. It's slightly sweet, a touch spicy, and all around awesome.

    Ingredients

See the recipe card at the end of the post for a full list of ingredients and their exact quantities.

    • Texas Toast 5 Cheese: I love New York Bakery® Gluten Free Texas Toast Five Cheese! It is bursting with garlic Parmesan flavor and the perfect side to serve with creamy pasta.
    • Sausage: Italian sausage adds rich flavor from fennel and herbs, making it the perfect protein for creamy sausage pasta recipes.
    • Seasonings: I use a combination of garlic, pepper, salt, and diced tomatoes. You can add tomato paste for an even deeper flavor in your creamy Italian sausage pasta.

    Flavor Variations

    • Switch the Sausage: We love the classic flavors from Italy, but this pasta also works great with Mexican chorizo, Andouille, or a classic bratwurst. Spicy Italian sausage is also wonderful.
    • Try Chicken: If you want a different feel, ground chicken sausages or ground turkey are quick substitutions that don't require the recipe to be changed. Beef works great too.
    • Mix Seasonings: If you are looking to elevate this dish, try adding some red pepper flakes for heat or some fresh spinach to make creamy sausage pasta with spinach! Some onion also goes a long way in this easy sausage pasta.

How To Make Creamy Sausage Pasta

Raw ground sausage, peppers, and oil in a pan to be cooked.

Step 1. Bring a large pot of salted water to a boil and cook the pasta according to directions for al dente. Drain the pasta and set it aside. Always reserve about ¼ cup of pasta water in case your sauce accidentally gets too thick in the end.

Step 2. In a pan on medium-high heat, add the olive oil. Once olive oil is heated, add the red bell pepper, garlic, sausage, salt, Italian seasoning, and pepper. Cook until the sausage is no longer pink and it has begun to brown. At this time drain any excess fat and return the sausage mixture to the skillet

Step 3. Next, reduce the heat to low and add in the diced tomatoes, and heavy cream. Stir this with a spatula and allow it to come to a simmer. Next add in the Parmesan cheese and stir until everything is melted and well combined.

Step 4. Then add in the cooked pasta and toss everything until evenly coated. Serve and enjoy!

    Expert Tips

    • Sauce Perfection: If your sauce is thin, add a little more cream to achieve your preferred texture. If it is a bit thick, use some of the pasta water you saved to thin it back out.
    • Serve Quickly: This sauce is best when fresh. The longer it sits, the more the pasta absorbs the sauce, causing it to get thicker.
    • Use a Large Pot or Large Skillet: This ensures the creamy pasta with Italian sausage has plenty of room to cook properly.

    Creamy Sausage Pasta FAQ's

What are the best pasta shapes to use for sausage & pasta recipes?

Rigatoni, Penne, and even broken up lasagna sheets work great for this pasta. Really, I like to use whatever is in the house to help save money and prevent items from getting old in the pantry. Fresh pasta is even better! The choice is yours!

Why is ground sausage a good option for pasta?

Sausage is seasoned with fennel. Fennel mixes with the fat to create a slightly sweet, slightly lemony flavor. Many people describe it as fresh, helping amplify the natural flavors of the protein.

    Does this recipe use cheese?

It uses a combination of parmesan cheese and heavy cream for the base of the creamy pasta sausage sauce. You can adjust and mix in any cheese of your choosing for this one-pot sausage pasta.

    Is this recipe gluten-free?

Yes! I used to gluten-free pasta to ensure this was a celiac safe option. In fact, all the recipes on my website are gluten-free, to help anyone who is dealing with a gluten allergy. You can use regular pasta as long as you do not have a gluten allergy.

    • Measuring spoons
    • Measuring cups
    • Rubber spatula

    Ingredients

    • 1 box New York Bakery Gluten Free Texas Toast 5 Cheese Bread
    • 1 pound ground sausage
    • 1 box gluten-free pasta
    • 14 oz can diced tomatoes
    • 1 red bell pepper diced small
    • 1 ½ cups heavy cream
    • 1 ½ cups Parmesan cheese
    • 2 tablespoon minced garlic
    • 1 tablespoon olive oil
    • 1 tablespoon Italian seasoning
    • ½ teaspoon salt
    • ¼ teaspoon black pepper

    Instructions

    • Bring a large pot of salted water to a boil and cook the pasta according to directions for al dente.
    • Drain the pasta and set it aside. Always reserve about ¼ cup of pasta water in case your sauce accidentally gets too thick in the end.
    • In a pan on medium-high heat, add the olive oil. Once olive oil is heated, add the red bell pepper, garlic, sausage, salt, Italian seasoning, and pepper.

    • Then add in the cooked pasta and toss everything until evenly coated. Serve and enjoy!

    Notes

    Tips:
    • Stop cooking your ground sausage as soon as it's no longer pink. Overcooking it will make your pasta with sausage tough and rubbery.
    • Add in extra vegetables to help your sausage and pasta dishes feel more complete.
    • Cook the vegetables until they're tender but not mushy. Crisp-tender is the sweet spot for the best flavor and texture. They cook faster than you think!
    Storage:
    • Store in the refrigerator in an airtight container for up to 4 days.
    • Reheat in the microwave in 30-second intervals or in a pan on medium heat until heated throughout.
    • Do not freeze this pasta.
