    Plateful of honey Buffalo wings.

It's football season, and that means it's time for wings. You might not believe it based on so many of the other recipes on my site, but I really love to make party food, and recipes like my lemon pepper honey wings and other gameday staples are a lot of fun for me.

I tend to make a lot of wings during football season, and this year, I've added another tasty recipe to my collection. These honey Buffalo wings. They're sweet, spicy, and loaded with meaty wing goodness!

    Ingredients

Overhead shot of individual honey Buffalo wing ingredients

    For the Wings

    • Chicken Wings: I prefer Springer Mountain Farms wings for their quality, taste, and commitment to no antibiotics, all-vegetarian diet, and no added hormones or steroids ever.
    • Seasonings: A combination of paprika, garlic powder, thyme, salt, and pepper gives the wings a bold flavor, even before adding the honey Buffalo sauce.

    For the Honey Buffalo Sauce

    • Frank's Buffalo Sauce: Frank's Buffalo sauce creates the zesty, hot base for the honey Buffalo sauce.
    • Butter: Butter adds richness and a velvety texture to the sauce.
    • Honey: Honey adds sweetness to balance out the heat of the Buffalo sauce.

See the recipe card at the end of the post for a full list of ingredients and their exact amounts.

    Flavor Variations

    • Buffalo Sauce: I love Frank's because it's certified gluten-free, but if you have no gluten issues, use your favorite brand.
    • Other Chicken Cuts: Use the sauce in this recipe to make chicken dinners with thighs or breasts.
    • Dairy-Free: Use plant butter to make a gluten and dairy-free version.

How to Make Buffalo Honey Wings

1: Preheat the oven to 420 degrees. Then, line a large baking sheet with foil and place a baking rack on top of it.

2: Wash and pat the wings dry, then cut the wing and drumette portions apart with a sharp kitchen knife. Combine the wings and wing seasonings in a large bowl and give them a good mix to ensure the wings are evenly coated.

Bowlful of seasoned, raw chicken wings

3: Place the wings onto the rack, being sure to leave space between them so every side gets crispy. Then, bake them for 20 to 25 minutes until their internal temperature reaches 165 degrees.

    For the Sauce

1: While the wings are cooking, combine the honey, buffalo sauce, butter, and salt in a small saucepan and bring to a simmer.

2: Combine the cornstarch and water in a small bowl, then pour the slurry into the sauce. Continue simmering, stirring occasionally, for 4 to 5 minutes until the sauce thickens slightly.

3: Serve the wings with the sauce on the side for dipping, or dip 2 wings at a time into the sauce to coat them. Repeat until all the wings are coated. Place the wings back on the rack and let the glaze set for 5 minutes, then sprinkle with fresh parsley, and enjoy!

    Hint

Be sure you leave a little space between the wings. Otherwise, they won't get crispy on the sides.

    Storage

Refrigerate these wings in an air-tight container for up to 3 days.

To reheat the wings, bake them at 350 on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper until hot.

What to Serve with Honey Buffalo Chicken Wings

Serve these wings with your favorite dipping sauce. Bleu cheese, of course, is the classic choice!

You can also pair these wings with your other favorite appetizers like avocado lime crema with chips, smoked mac and cheese, or fire roasted salsa with chips.

Tips for the Best Buffalo Honey Glazed Chicken Wings

    • It's important to rinse and pat the chicken wings dry so the seasonings will stick to them readily.
    • Be sure to leave a little space between the wings while you bake them so the skin gets crispy on all sides.
    • If you use the sauce as a glaze, give the wings a gentle shake after dipping them to ensure the perfect glaze.
    • Hold the chicken as close to the bottom of your sink as possible to limit cross-contamination from spattering water.

    Frequently Asked Questions

    Is Frank's Buffalo Sauce gluten-free?

Yes, it is. That's why it's the only one I use. It's gluten-free and certified dairy-free, vegetarian, and kosher.

    Is Buffalo sauce gluten-free?

Buffalo sauce can be gluten-free, but not all Buffalo sauce is gluten-free. Buffalo sauces with ingredients like malt vinegar or soy sauce have hidden gluten, so it's important to look for brands that specify that they are gluten-free.

Why do you bake wings on a baking rack?

Baking wings on a baking rack allows the hot air to reach all sides of the wings, making every part of them crispy.

    • Saucepan
    • Kitchen scissors
    • Baking Sheet
    • Baking Rack
    • Meat thermometer

    Ingredients

    Chicken Wings

    • 16 chicken wings
    • 1 ¾ teaspoon baking powder
    • 1 teaspoon paprika
    • ¾ teaspoon salt
    • ½ teaspoon pepper
    • ½ teaspoon garlic powder
    • ¼ teaspoon thyme

    Honey Buffalo Sauce

    • 2 tablespoon butter
    • 4 tablespoon Frank's Buffalo sauce
    • ½ cup honey
    • ¼ teaspoon salt
    • 1 tablespoon cornstarch
    • 2 tablespoon water

    Instructions

    For the Wings

    • Preheat the oven to 420 degrees and line a large baking sheet with foil. Place a baking rack on top.
    • Wash the chicken wings with water and pat them dry.
    • Combine the wings, baking powder, paprika, salt, pepper, garlic powder, thyme, and onion powder in a large bowl and mix until the wings are coated.
    • Place the wings onto the baking rack, making sure to leave room between them so the skin gets crispy on all sides.
    • Bake the wings for 20 to 25 minutes until the internal temperature reaches 165 degrees.

    For the Sauce

    • Combine the honey, Buffalo sauce, butter, and salt in a small saucepan and bring it to a simmer.
    • In a small bowl, make a slurry of the cornstarch and water.
    • Add the slurry to the sauce and continue simmering, stirring occasionally, for 4 to 5 minutes until it thickens slightly.
    • Either serve the sauce on the side or dip 2 wings at a time into the sauce, placing the dipped wings back onto the baking rack.
    • Let the coated wings set for about 5 minutes, then sprinkle with fresh parsley and nejoy.

    Notes

    Storage
    • Refrigerate for up to 3 days in an airtight container.
    • Freeze unglazed wings for up to 3 months in an airtight, freezer-safe container.
    • Freezing glazed wings isn't recommended. The sauce will cause them to freeze into a big block of chicken wings.
    • To reheat the wings, defrost them overnight if frozen. Then, bake them at 350 on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper until heated through.
    Tips
    • The easiest way to rinse the wings is to place them in a strainer, set it at the bottom of the sink, and run a gentle stream of water over them. This also helps reduce splashing.
    • Always wash the sink and counters after rinsing the chicken.
    • Be sure the chicken is as dry as possible so these seasonings stick.

Anything honey has my vote when it comes to main dishes and these honey buffalo wings are plain addictive. We just loved the combo of hot and sweet. They vanished so fast, I'll have to make double the next time.
