    This dairy-free avocado cilantro lime crema is so creamy and packed with flavor you are going to fall in love! You can use this avocado cilantro lime crema as an aioli, a dip, a dressing, a sauce, the list is endless.  This Avocado crema with lime pairs with my chicken burger and pico.

    This easy crema yogurt recipe comes together in just 5 minutes with no fancy steps involved. It’s also diet-friendly as we are using dairy-free yogurt as our base, without all the added unwanted fats that most cremas are based around. This crema is vegan, paleo, gluten-free, keto, and Whole 30 approved.

    Why you will love this recipe

    • It’s an easy recipe: you can use either a blender or a food processor to have this done in minutes. 
    • It’s easy to store: keep this crema in an airtight container for up to one week in the fridge. 
    • Versatility: the places you can use this avocado lime sauce are endless. Tacos, fajitas, quesadillas, salads, chips, and so much more. 
    • Dairy, nut, and gluten-free: this avocado lime cilantro crema is allergen friendly. 

    Ingredients

    Avocado: make sure to choose ripe avocados. If the avocado is too hard, you won’t be able to achieve the signature silky smooth texture a crema embodies. 

    Cilantro: cilantro will provide a herbaceous tangy flavor to the crema. 

    Lime: for this recipe, we are using fresh lime. However, if you do not have fresh lime, bottled lime juice will also work. Although, for the best flavor, I recommend using a fresh lime. 

    Salt: a little goes a long way with this crema.

    Dairy free yogurt: I like to use plain, unsweetened dairy-free yogurt for the best results. 

    Garlic olive oil, not only does it lend a burst of garlic flavor, but it provides another layer of creaminess to this crema. 

    Garlic cloves: for this recipe, I am using three garlic cloves. However, if you do not have fresh garlic, 1 tablespoon of minced garlic will also do just fine.

    Instructions

    • Begin by slicing your avocado, long ways down the middle. Carefully remove the pit of the avocado. 
    • Next, place the avocado flesh, lime juice, garlic, cilantro, garlic, oil, salt, and yogurt into the food processor or blender. 
    • Process until well blended. At this point, if the crema is too thick, simply add 1 teaspoon of avocado oil at a time until your desired consistency is met.
    • Transfer the avocado cilantro lime crema into a small serving bowl. You can either serve this immediately or place it in the refrigerator until you are ready to serve. 
    • For proper storage, be certain to cover it completely before placing it in the fridge.

    Variations

    • If you do not need this recipe to be dairy-free, you can simply replace the dairy-free yogurt with full dairy yogurt or sour cream.
    • If you like a little heat, you can add a small amount of diced jalapeño or dry jalapeño seasoning.

    Tips

    To keep this crema from turning brown for later use, you can always store this with the seed of the avocado inside of the bowl, making certain to place it in an airtight container in the fridge. The lime juice will also contribute towards less browning.

    Avocado cilantro lime crema is a creamy sauce that is typically made from sour cream in Mexican cuisine. Healthier versions are made with a variety of yogurts. For this one, we are using dairy-free yogurt. This crema is very similar to guacamole but has a creamy smooth texture and a tangier taste. 

    Can I use sour cream in place of yogurt? 

    Absolutely, sour cream will work just fine in place of the yogurt.

    What if my crema is too thick? 

    If your avocado cilantro lime crema is too thick, add 1 teaspoon of avocado oil until your desired consistency is met.
