Wings scream family time to me. We are always making them to watch a big sports game, host a family BBQ, or enjoy as an appetizer during happy hour at home. As a mom, it’s also the perfect hack for getting the whole family (and guests) to eat the same meal. The kids can use whatever sauces and dressings they want to customize their wings. It's the type of recipe that feels like a special treat, even when you're staying home.

Ingredients
See the recipe card at the end of the post for a full list of ingredients and their exact quantities.

- Chicken Wings: Nothing fancy here. Grab a pack of wings from the store and you are set. I left them whole, you can take off the wing tips if you prefer. Leaving the drumettes on the wingette is optional.
- Seasoning: I kept it simple for this baked chicken with smoked paprika, thyme, onion powder and some garlic salt. You can use these plus whatever is in the house!
- Olive Oil: I prefer Costabile olive oil for its quality and purity. Use Code: 15GoldenGK for 15% off.
Flavor Variations
- Change The Spices: If you want different flavor from my homemade spice rub, try mixing in some garlic powder, oregano, or basil. Avocado oil is another easy substitution. Cayenne Pepper and herbs are a great way to add some heat.
- Sauce Your Wings: Buffalo sauce, barbecue sauce or a garlic Parmesan sauce are all fantastic options to keep this recipe fresh.
- Use an Air Fryer: These are easily done in the oven or an air fryer. Cook times will vary for air fryer chicken.

How To Make Oven Baked Whole Chicken Wings

Step 1. Preheat the oven to 450°F. Wash and pat the chicken wings dry. Then place the chicken wings into a large bowl.

Step 2. Evenly coat the chicken wings with the olive oil, smoked paprika, garlic salt, thyme, black pepper, and onion powder.

Step 3. Once everything has been coated evenly, lay the chicken wings evenly on a baking tray. Be careful not to overlap the chicken wings.

Step 4. Bake for 22 to 30 minutes. Baking time will depend on the size of your chicken wings and the temperature of your oven. My wings typically finish around 24 minutes. It’s a good thing to use a meat thermometer and remove them from the oven when the internal temperature reaches 165° Fahrenheit.
Expert Tips
- Spread Them Out: Make sure the wings have an inch or two of space between each other. This ensures a perfect golden brown crust every time.
- Use a Meat Thermometer: I love using my ThermoPro Meat Thermometer to make sure my chicken is cooked just right.
- Clean Your Chicken: It's important to rinse and pat the chicken wings dry with a paper towel so the seasonings will stick properly.

Oven Baked Whole Chicken Wings FAQ's
It's easy! Clean them, season them, put them on a tray and bake at 450°F until they reach an internal temp of 165°. Serve them with celery sticks and carrots for a traditional feel. I have an in depth explanation down in the recipe card.
Yes! I would suggest cooking them at 400° in the Air Fryer for about 20 minutes. Flip them at the 10 minute mark and then test the internal temperature once the timer is up. Continue cooking in 5-minute intervals if needed.
My favorites are BBQ, buffalo, lemon pepper, and sweet chili (in no particular order). These are all great and very common among wing lovers. Ranch and blue cheese dressing are also great dipping options. Making the wings plain and leaving sauces on the side ensures everyone gets what they want.
Of course! All my recipes are made gluten-free to keep it easy for anyone with a gluten allergy. These oven baked full chicken wings are naturally gluten-free for everyone to enjoy!

Notes
- To ensure even distribution of your spices, mix them in a bowl before tossing them with the wings.
- For more flavor, brush the wings with any remaining sauce with a pastry brush right before serving.
- Pat your wings dry thoroughly before tossing them with the seasoning. This ensures the crispiest wings possible.
- Reheat in the microwave at 30 second intervals until the wings are hot.
- Cover your wings with aluminum foil to keep them warm while serving.
- You can store these in an airtight container in the fridge for 3 to 4 days after making them.
- I would not recommend putting these leftovers in the freezer, but you can keep raw wings frozen until you cook them.
