How to Make Chicken Fajitas Wraps
Making these wraps is incredibly quick and easy. It only takes a few minutes of prep and a few minutes more in the air fryer. The entire process only takes about 15 minutes from start to finish.
1: Wash the chicken, pat it dry, and cut it into strips.
2: Add the chicken to a medium bowl and coat it with olive oil and lime juice. Then, add the peppers and onions and toss them to coat.
3: Add the seasoning and toss again to coat the chicken and veggies fully.
4: Air fry the chicken and vegetables at 390 degrees for 7 minutes. Then, toss the chicken and vegetables and air fry for another 2 to 3 minutes. The internal temperature of the chicken should be 165 degrees when done.
5: Heat a corn tortilla in a skillet on medium heat for 20 seconds. Then, add the fajita mixture and your choice of cheese, fold the fajita over, flip, and continue cooking until the wrap begins to stay closed. Enjoy!
Hint
Be sure to preheat your air fryer before cooking the fajita filling. It's an absolute myth that air fryers don't have to be preheated!
Storage
Refrigerate any leftover fajita filling as soon as it's cooled off a bit for maximum freshness and shelf life. This fajita mixture also freezes beautifully!
To reheat, place the defrosted fajita mixture on a baking sheet, cover with foil, and bake at 350 until heated through.
Refrigerator: Store in an air-tight container for up to 3 days.
Freezer: Store in an air-tight, freezer-safe container or heavy-duty freezer bag with as much air removed as possible for up to 3 months. Defrost in the refrigerator overnight before reheating.
What to Serve with Air Fryer Chicken Fajitas Wraps
Serve this chicken fajita filling in the tortilla of your choice, or pair it with rice, noodles, or more vegetables to create a hearty meal.
Tips
- Always preheat your air fryer for even cooking and accurate cooking times.
- If you have a small air fryer, cook the fajita filling in batches.
- Be sure your filling is in an even layer in the air fryer basket, or the ingredients won't cook evenly.
- Keep the heat at medium when heating the tortillas and the filling. You don't want to burn the tortillas.
FAQ
The chicken and vegetable fajita mixture is very healthy. It's loaded with lean protein, vitamins, minerals, and antioxidants.
Chicken fajita filling is inherently healthy. It's the toppings that make chicken fajitas unhealthy. Omit high-fat toppings like full-fat cheese and sour cream and use low-fat versions instead. This gives you the flavor you love with fewer calories and less saturated fat.
Preheating the air fryer does help, but to be honest, I do not always preheat the air fryer and the food will cook up just fine!
Any tortilla will work will. If you are gluten free like me, I recommend corn tortillas, although if gluten is not an issue, flour tortillas work great. You can also find healthier versions like low-carb or vegetable tortillas.
Yes, this chicken fajita recipe is both gluten free and dairy free.
