Pork chop dinners are always a great choice for gathering around the table with family. When you cook pork chops right, they're tender and juicy, and their flavor is mild enough to pair with a variety of flavors, but not so mild that it disappears.

From creamy pasta and pork chops to this zesty pork adobo recipe, I love making hearty, filling, and delicious pork dinners for my family. There are just so many ways to prepare them and flavors to pair them with that I always know my next dish will be one that everyone loves.

This air fryer pork chops recipe is a perfect example of that. Cooking pork chops in the air fryer makes them golden on the outside and juicy on the inside, and their seasoned rub makes them an excellent main course for any dinner.

    Ingredients

    • Bone In Pork Chops: Bone in pork chops tend to be more tender and juicy, thanks to the bone distributing the heat more efficiently.
    • Olive Oil: Olive oil creates the base for the seasoned rub. I prefer Costabile olive oil for its quality and purity. Use Code: 15GOLDENGK on Amazon for 15% off.
    • Seasonings: A blend of seasonings, including smoked sweet paprika, garlic powder, mustard powder, onion powder, and a few others, adds bold, savory flavor to the chops.
    • Brown Sugar: Brown sugar adds a touch of sweetness that's balanced by the savory spices.

See the recipe card at the end of the post for a full list of ingredients and their exact amounts.

    Flavor Variations

    • Protein: This recipe works with pork chops, chicken, beef, and even shellfish such as shrimp.
    • Boneless: Boneless pork chops also work for this recipe. Choose thick pork chops to eliminate changing the cooking time.
    • Spicy: Add red pepper flakes for a little bit of heat.
    • Spices: Use different combinations or premade spice mixes to create different flavors.
    • Sugar Free: If you're watching your sugar intake, just omit the brown sugar or use brown coconut sugar.

How to Make Air Fryer Bone In Pork Chops

Seasoned paste in a glass bowl.

Step 1: Mix the olive oil and seasonings in a bowl to form a paste.

Four seasoned pork chops in an air fryer basket.

Step 2: Coat both sides of the chops with the paste and place them in the air fryer basket in a single layer.

Four cooked pork chops in an air fryer basket.

Step 3: Air fry at 400°F until their internal temperature registers 145°F with a meat thermometer.

Four cooked pork chops on a white plate.

Step 4: Enjoy with pasta, rice, potatoes, and your favorite veggie sides.

    Expert Tips

    • While you can use a silicone brush to coat the chops, I find doing it by hand helps coat them more evenly.
    • Wash your chops and pat them dry with paper towels to allow the rub to adhere.
    • Use low water pressure to wash your chops, so you don't splash bacteria-laden water all over the kitchen.
    • Preheat your air fryer for best results. It only takes a couple of minutes, and it promotes more even cooking and accurate times.
    • Let the chops rest for 5 to 10 minutes before serving so the juices can redistribute back into the meat.

Air Fryer Bone In Pork Chops FAQ

Is bone in better than boneless?

While not better, bone in meat does have some advantages. The marrow in the bone can add more flavor to meat. In addition, bone in meat tends to be juicier because the bone insulates the meat and distributes the heat. This also leads to more tender meat.

Why didn't my rub stick to my pork chops?

If you don't thoroughly dry the chops before adding the rub, it will have a hard time adhering.

    Are pork chops healthy?

Pork chops are an incredibly healthy protein. They're lower in fat than beef, making them an excellent compromise between super lean chicken breast and fattier beef.

    Equipment

    • Measuring spoons
    • Mixing Bowls
    • Air Fryer

    Ingredients

    • 4 bone in pork chops ¼ to ½-inch thick
    • 2 tablespoon olive oil
    • 2 tablespoon smoked sweet paprika
    • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
    • ¾ teaspoon black pepper
    • 1 teaspoon salt
    • ½ teaspoon mustard powder
    • ½ teaspoon onion powder
    • ¾ teaspoon thyme
    • 2 tablespoon brown sugar

    Instructions

    • Wash the pork chops and pat them dry with paper towels.
    • Mix the olive oil, brown sugar, sweet smoked paprika, garlic powder, black pepper, salt, mustard powder, onion powder, and thyme to create a paste.
    • Coat the washed and dried pork chops thoroughly on both sides with the rub.
    • Air fry the pork chops for 8 to 10 minutes at 400 degrees, flipping halfway through cooking until the internal temperature reaches 145 degrees.

    Notes

    Storage
    • Refrigerate for up to 3 days in an airtight container.
    • Freeze for up to 3 months wrapped in plastic wrap and stored in an airtight, freezer-safe container or heavy-duty freezer bag.
    • To reheat, defrost overnight in the refrigerator if frozen. Then, bake at 350 covered until heated through.
    Tips
    • Rinsing and patting the chops dry ensures your seasonings cling to the pork chops.
    • Use low water pressure to wash your chops, so you don't splash bacteria-laden water all over the kitchen.
    • While you can use a silicone brush to coat the chops, I find doing it by hand helps coat them more evenly.
    • Preheating your air fryer takes only about 5 minutes and yields the best results, so don't skip this step.
    • Let the chops rest for 5 to 10 minutes before serving so the juices can redistribute back into the meat.
