This emerald-hued powerhouse also gets its color from two superfoods, kale and spinach. Superfoods are nutrient-dense foods that supply compounds that help our bodies to flush out toxins. That is only one of many health-boosting benefits that they offer! Additionally, peanut butter is a good source of plant-based protein that will keep your hunger at bay. One sip, and you'll be saying, "YES!" to eating your greens.

Try this smoothie as a non-alcoholic St. Patrick's Day drink, so you can be festive without feeling it the next day!

    Flavor Variations

You can really get creative with this smoothie and customize it to your hearts content. Try using coconut, cashew, or dairy milk instead of almond milk for a twist. Similarly, you may replace the peanut butter with your favorite nut or nut-free butter, (e.g. sunflower butter). Another way to add a boost of protein, is to add a scoop of your favorite protein powder. Lastly, for another antioxidant and energy boost, try adding a scoop of matcha powder.

How to Make a Green Detox Smoothie

Place all items in blender, and blend until smooth. Serve immediately.

    Equipment

A blender, immersion (hand blender), or food processor is needed to make this recipe.

    Storage

Although this smoothie is best when consumed immediately, you can make "smoothie cubes" by filling your ice cube trays with any remaining smoothie and freezing them. Generally, the "smoothie cubes can be added to future smoothies, or protein shakes for an added boost of nutrients.

    Top tip

Pressed for time? Assemble "smoothie bags" which are food storage bags or containers, filled with all of the smoothie ingredients - minus the milk - and store them in the freezer so you can just add milk, blend, and GO!

This green smoothie was just what I needed after indulging a bit much in the last few days. Had me feel oh so virtuous, yet tasted super indulgent from the banana and peanut butter. With all the green, my iron needs are also covered, which is a big plus!

Nice smoothie, even for those not really enjoying kale. Had it a few times now, varying the nut butter I use, but I think I like your original recipe with almond butter best 🙂
