Why You'll Love These Gluten-Free Chicken Wings

    • Simple Ingredients: It only takes a few basic ingredients to make these wings.
    • Easy to Make: You just toss the wings with the other ingredients and air fry them to perfection.
    • Better for You: Air frying the wings cuts the fat by half!
    • Perfect for Parties: It's not a party until someone brings out the chicken wings!

    Ingredients

    chicken wings ingredients

    Chicken Wings

    • Chicken Wings: I prefer Springer Mountain Farms ready-to-cook chicken wings. They're meat and juicy, and the company is committed to using no antibiotics or hormones or adding meat by-products to their feed.
    • Baking powder: Baking powder helps to get the wings crispier.
    • Seasonings: A blend of pepper, garlic powder, onion powder, and paprika gives the wings a rich, bold flavor.

    Sauce

    • Gluten Free Soy Sauce: Gluten free soy sauce adds a salty, bold Asian kick to the wings.
    • Sesame Oil: Sesame oil adds deep, nutty, authentic Asian flavor.
    • Gluten Free Teriyaki Sauce: Teriyaki sauce gives the chili sauce a sweet tang.
    • Brown Sugar: Brown sugar adds sweetness to the sauce.
    • Seasonings: A blend of minced garlic, garlic powder, and lime juice adds bold flavor with a bit of bite.

See the recipe card at the end of the post for a full list of ingredients and their exact amounts.

    Flavor Variations

    • Soy Sauce: If you want to cut down on the salt, use coconut aminos, instead.
    • Brown Sugar: Honey or coconut sugar work well in place of brown sugar.
    • Chicken Thighs: This sauce is a delicious way to add flavor to air-fried chicken thighs, as well.
    • Spicy: Add red pepper flakes to the chicken wing seasoning blend for a kick of heat.
    • Broil: Try broiling the coated wings for a couple of minutes to caramelize the outside.

How to Make This Chicken Wings Gluten Free Recipe

    Wings

1: Preheat the air fryer to 400 degrees and spray the air fryer rack with cooking spray.

2: Rinse the wings and pat them dry. Then, add them to a resealable bag with the baking powder and spices and shake until evenly coated.

3: Place the wings in a single layer on the rack and cook for 18 to 20 minutes, flipping the wings after about 10 minutes.

    Sauce

1: Bring all the sauce ingredients to a boil over medium-high heat.

2: When the sauce is boiling, make a slurry of the water and cornstarch and pour it into the sauce.

3: Reduce the heat and simmer, stirring until the sauce thickens.

4: Let the wings cool for about 3 minutes, then toss them with the sauce.

    Hint

It's a complete myth that you don't have to preheat your air fryer. It only takes about 5 minutes to do, and it ensures that your food cooks evenly and quickly and gives you the best coatings and crispiest skin.

    Storage

Refrigerate these wings in an air-tight container for up to 3 days. For longer storage, you can freeze them for up to 3 months in an air-tight, freezer-safe container.

To reheat the wings, defrost them overnight in the fridge if frozen. Then, microwave them at 30-second intervals until heated through or air fry them at 370 degrees for about 5 minutes.

What to Serve with Crispy Gluten Free Chicken Wings

Serve these wings at parties alongside other delicious appetizer recipes like taquitos with guacamole, gluten free spinach dip, and sweet potato fries.

Tips for the Best Gluten Free Air Fryer Chicken Wings

    • Be sure your wings are completely dry before coating them with the seasonings. This allows the mixture to cling to the wings more readily and gets them as crispy as possible.
    • Make sure to lightly coat your air fryer in olive oil or your choice of oil. This will prevent the chicken wings from sticking to the bottom of the air fryer.
    • Check the temperature of your wings when they are close to being done. Once your wings reach an internal temperature of 165 °F, they are done cooking. To achieve a crispier wing, you can turn the temperature to 400 °F for two minutes to make the outside crispy. Or you can broil them in the oven for two minutes.

    Frequently Asked Questions

Can I make these wings without an air fryer?

If you don't have an air fryer, you can grill or bake the wings. Grill them at 350 degrees for 18 to 25 minutes, flipping halfway through cooking. To bake the wings, cook them at 425 degrees for 40 minutes, flipping halfway through.

What else can I use this chili sauce for?

This chili sauce can be used with chicken thighs, breasts, drumsticks, wings, pork, or even seafood.

    Is sweet chili sauce hot?

Sweet chili sauce has a hint of heat, but it's incredibly mild. The sauce is far sweeter than it is hot, and even children will eat it.

How do I know when my chicken wings are done?

The best way to know if your wings are done is by using a meat thermometer. When it registers 165 degrees, the wings are done.
